I constantly feel tired, have low energy, have virtually no sex drive or interest in sex, and am depressed. I have gone to other providers and been told it was in my head.

First, thank you for sharing your feelings with me. I am here to help you feel better and be healthier.

What you’re describing sounds like your hormones, specifically testosterone, is low or not-optimal. However, we need to complete a hormone panel, which involves a blood test to measure your hormone levels, and a symptom checklist, which is a series of questions about your symptoms, to know for sure. The results of the labs and checklist will help us help you.

According to the Endocrine Society and Dr. Gordon of Kaiser Permanente, the symptoms of low testosterone include:
  • Vaginal Dryness, reduced erectile function
  • Reduced sex drive
  • Fatigue
  • Symptoms of depression, mood changes
  • Muscle weakness, loss of lean muscle
  • Hair loss
  • Weight gain
  • Poor memory, poor focus
So, it appears you have several of the classic symptoms of low or not-optimal testosterone.

The good news is that we can help you. Testosterone therapy, as reported by Parish et al. (2021), Donovitz et al. (2022), Hubbard et al. (2022), Lincoff et al. (2023), and Agrawal et al. (2024) is an effective and safe treatment to reduce and eliminate many of the symptoms you describe. It's important to note that this therapy is closely monitored to ensure your safety and well-being. Hubbard et al. (2022) found that even in patients with normal total testosterone, low free testosterone produced characteristic symptoms of low energy, libido, and erectile function, among others. Agrawal et al. (2024) reported that patients receiving testosterone therapy had improvements in sexual function.

Remember, we are here to help you feel better and live healthier. You have completed the first step, asking for help! Next, we need to complete hormone labs and screening tools to ensure we are addressing the root cause. Working with a provider who has specific training in bioidentical hormone replacement, that is knowledgeable and experienced in testosterone therapy is essential. Part of our hormone treatment program is routine consultations and labs to monitor progress.

The symptoms did not appear overnight, and it's important to understand that the treatment process takes time. Patience and commitment are crucial to feeling better.  You are not alone in this journey, and we are here to support you every step of the way.
